Daikaijuu Monogatari is one of those weird, charming SNES RPGs that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it's got this great mix of kaiju battles and classic dungeon crawling. You start off as this chosen hero with a flaming shell (yes, really), trying to stop disasters popping up all over the place while some ancient demon king decides it's a good time to wake up and ruin everything.
The combat's turn-based but with a twist—you recruit monsters to fight alongside you, and some of them are absolute units. I remember wasting way too much time trying to catch this one dragon-looking thing early on. The pixel art's surprisingly detailed for an SNES game, especially when the bigger monsters start throwing down. It's got that classic '90s RPG vibe where the story takes itself just seriously enough without being melodramatic.
If you're into obscure JRPGs with monster-collecting mechanics, this one's a hidden gem. Just be ready for some grinding—old-school style.
