Game Overview

Das Boot German U-Boat Simulation came out in 1990 for MS-DOS, published by Three-Sixty Pacific. It was part of that wave of detailed sims that asked a lot from players, back when manuals were thick and patience was mandatory. You weren't just playing a game; you were learning a complex, unforgiving machine.

You command a Type VII U-boat, and your job is to survive patrols in the North Atlantic. The game plays out across a series of dedicated screens: one for the periscope view to spot targets, another for the hydrophone to listen for ship screws, and a damage control screen to manage leaks and fires. Every decision is critical, from calculating a torpedo solution to deciding when to run silent or surface for air. The pacing is slow and deliberate, punctuated by moments of sheer terror when destroyers appear on the horizon. It feels like a high-stakes chess match played in a steel tube at the bottom of the sea.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
