Game Overview

Days of Thunder came out in 1990, published by Mindscape as part of their MS-DOS Classic Games lineup. It was one of the early attempts to bring the high speed chaos of NASCAR racing to the home computer, a time when racing sims were still figuring out how to translate the sensation of speed and competition onto a screen.

You control Cole Trickle's stock car, wrestling with the keyboard to keep it from spinning out on tight turns. The main goal is to win races by navigating ovals, avoiding aggressive AI drivers who constantly bump and block you. Key mechanics include drafting behind opponents to gain a speed boost and managing tire wear, which drastically affects handling as a race goes on. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving; one wrong move often sends you into the wall, ending any chance of victory. It feels like a constant, white knuckle fight for control against both the track and every other car on it.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
