I remember picking up The Death and Return of Superman for the SNES back in 1994, a game developed by Sunsoft. It was one of those licensed titles that came out during the 16-bit era, based on the massive comic book event. You could find it on the shelf alongside other superhero games, and it definitely stood out if you were into Superman.

You control Superman at first, flying through side-scrolling stages and punching through Intergang thugs and robotic enemies. The main goal is to stop Doomsday, but after the famous fight, you switch between different replacement heroes like Superboy, Steel, and Cyborg Superman, each with unique attacks and movement. The gameplay involves clearing screen after screen of enemies, using character-specific powers like energy blasts or hammer strikes, and occasionally battling larger bosses. It can feel repetitive and is known for being fairly difficult, with some awkward hit detection. Still, there's a simple satisfaction in plowing through enemies and seeing the story play out in pixelated form.
