Digimon Story on the DS is one of those RPGs that sneaks up on you—what starts as a simple "raise your monster" game quickly turns into this weirdly addictive loop of training, evolving, and battling. You’ll spend way too much time in the Digital Lab tweaking stats, only to realize your rookie Digimon just turned into some absurd armored dragon two forms later.
The battles actually make you think, too. It’s not just mashing buttons—you’ve got to juggle type matchups, skill rotations, and when to digivolve mid-fight. And yeah, it’s in Japanese if you’re playing this version, but the menus are surprisingly manageable once you get the hang of them. Just expect a lot of trial and error figuring out which items do what.
If you ever wanted a Pokémon-like game but with more chaos and way weirder creature designs, this is it. The story’s cheesy in that classic Digimon way, but you’ll probably be too busy obsessing over your team’s evolution paths to care.
