Game Overview

I picked up Disney's The Lion King III for the Sega Genesis back in the day, a game developed by Dark Technologies and published by Virgin Interactive. It was one of those many licensed platformers that filled the shelves in the mid-90s, trying to capture the movie's magic with 16-bit sprites and a lot of hopping around. It didn't have the same buzz as some of the bigger titles, but it was another chance to step into the Pridelands.

You control Simba through a series of side-scrolling levels, moving screen by screen, pouncing on hyenas and meerkats, and navigating tricky platform sections with vines and falling logs. The main goal is simply to reach the end of each stage, fighting off enemies and occasionally confronting a larger boss. The pacing is slow, the controls feel a bit heavy, and some jumps require very precise timing, making it tougher than it looks. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes frustrating trek through familiar scenery.
