Game Overview

Donkey Kong Country on the Game Boy Advance is still one of the best platformers out there—even after all these years. You start off with Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong teaming up to get back their stolen bananas from that sneaky croc King K. Rool. The levels are packed with Kremlings to stomp, barrels to throw, and hidden bonus rooms stuffed with extra lives and collectibles.

What I love is how different the two apes feel. Donkey Kong’s your heavy hitter—he can demolish enemies with a single jump and chuck barrels like a pro. Diddy’s quicker, though, darting around with cartwheels and using barrels as a makeshift shield. Switching between them keeps things interesting, especially when you hit a tough spot and need to rethink your approach.

The GBA version throws in some cool extras, like Candy’s Dance Studio (weirdly fun rhythm minigames) and Hero Mode, which strips away checkpoints and forces you to play as just Diddy. There’s also DK Attack for speedrunners and scrapbook pictures to hunt down instead of stickers. It’s a solid upgrade from the SNES original, even if the screen’s a bit cramped.

If you’ve never played it, you’re in for a treat—just watch out for those beavers. They’re way more annoying than they look.
