Game Overview

Donkey Kong Country 2 is one of those SNES games that just sticks with you. You start off on Gangplank Galleon, which feels familiar if you played the first one, but then it quickly throws you into Crocodile Isle—K. Rool’s turf—and the whole vibe changes. The levels get wilder, with way more variety than the original, from haunted shipwrecks to beehive mazes. And instead of just riding animals like before, now you become them, which is way cooler when you’re clinging to vines as a spider or swimming through tight spots as a swordfish.

There’s also this sneaky layer of secrets everywhere. I must’ve missed half the bonus stages on my first playthrough because they’re tucked away behind random barrel shots or hidden in the scenery. And good luck 100%-ing the Lost World—those levels are brutal. The music, the atmosphere, even the way Diddy and Dixie control differently… it all just clicks. Still holds up as one of the best platformers on the SNES.
