Game Overview
Dragon Ball Evolution for the PSP came out in 2009, developed by Dimps and published by Namco Bandai. It was one of those licensed games that tried to ride the wave of the live-action movie, landing on a handheld that was still pretty active at the time. The PSP had a lot of solid action titles, but this one always felt like it was trying to catch up.
You control Goku as he moves through linear stages, fighting waves of enemies with basic combos and special moves. The main goal is to beat the story mode by taking down major villains like Piccolo. Signature mechanics include charging up your ki to unleash energy attacks and engaging in one-on-one boss battles that rely on quick-time events. The pacing is uneven, with repetitive combat and some frustrating difficulty spikes. It feels like a rushed attempt to turn a weak movie into a functional game.
