Dodge Raditz’s attacks while balancing ki for that last-minute Kamehameha, then watch the screen shake when a super lands—this SNES RPG makes every fight feel like an episode of DBZ. Your choices actually shift the story, like convincing Vegeta to join early or paying for a mistimed transformation.

Game Overview

Dragon Ball Z: Super Saiya Densetsu is that rare SNES RPG where you actually feel like you're strategizing in the DBZ universe—not just spamming energy blasts. You start off with Goku and Piccolo squaring up against Raditz, and right away, you realize ki management matters. Run out mid-fight, and suddenly that big special move you were banking on? Gone. The pixel art nails those dramatic close-ups from the anime, especially when someone powers up or takes a brutal hit.

What hooked me was how your choices ripple through the story. Recruit Vegeta early, and the Frieza fight plays out completely differently. Mess up your timing on a transformation, and you might watch allies die when you could've saved them. The fan translation isn't perfect—some menus feel a little janky—but hearing the original Japanese soundtrack while planning your next move against the Ginyu Force? Pure 90s nostalgia.

It's basically the DBZ RPG we never officially got outside Japan, and it holds up way better than you'd expect for a 16-bit game.
