Dodge Raditz’s blasts in cornfields, grind tournaments for Kamehamehas, and vanish-counter like an anime hero—those destructible arenas make every fight feel straight out of the show.
Game Overview
Dragon Ball Z Budokai on GameCube throws you right into the Saiyan saga chaos—Raditz shows up out of nowhere, kidnaps Gohan, and suddenly you're brawling in cornfields like it's Tuesday. The story mode nails that DBZ escalation, from training with King Kai (good luck hitting that damn monkey) to the Cell Games, with all the screaming power-ups and destructible arenas in between.
What I didn’t expect was how much time I’d waste in World Tournament mode, grinding fights to buy ridiculous moves like the Kamehameha or Solar Flare. The controls take a minute to click—heavy on button combos—but once you nail that perfect vanish-dodge into a counter, it feels like you’re pulling off anime nonsense for real. And yeah, collecting all seven Dragon Balls to summon Shenron never gets old, even if your wish usually just unlocks another costume.
It’s janky in that early-2000s fighting game way, but the energy beams still look gorgeous when they light up the screen.
