Game Overview

Driller came out on the Amiga in 1987 from Incentive Software. It was one of those early 3D games that tried to push what the hardware could do, using a first-person view to dig into a planet. At the time, it stood out for its ambition, even if the frame rate sometimes struggled to keep up.

You pilot a small drilling vehicle on a mission to stabilize a planet's core. The goal is to place stabilizers at specific points, but to get there you have to tunnel through rock, constantly managing your limited fuel and oxygen supplies. You collect energy crystals to keep everything running, all while avoiding cave-ins and hostile alien creatures that patrol the tunnels. The pace is slow and deliberate, demanding careful planning with every move. It feels tense and isolating, like you're truly on your own at the bottom of an alien world.
