Mr. Driller 2 came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2005, a Namco release that fit right in with the handheld's library of quick, pick-up-and-play puzzle games. It was a time when you could find a dozen different ways to kill five minutes, and this one was a solid, no-fuss option.
You control a driller, Susumu Hori or one of his friends, and your job is to dig downward through colored blocks to reach a goal depth. The core mechanic is matching four or more blocks of the same color to make them disappear; you have to be fast because your air supply constantly depletes. The real tension comes from managing the falling debris above you; clearing a path carelessly can cause a catastrophic chain reaction that traps you. It feels like a constant, frantic calculation between speed and survival.
