DuckTales 2 (Europe) (Beta) is one of those weird little NES curios—a sequel that never quite made it out in this form, but somehow feels like stumbling onto buried treasure. You’re still Scrooge McDuck, pogo-jumping your way through mineshafts and pyramids, but everything’s just… slightly off. Some levels feel rearranged, the music cues are different, and there’s this one boss fight that’s way harder than it should be (I swear they tweaked the hitboxes).
What’s cool, though, is how much it still feels like DuckTales. The controls are just as snappy, the secrets just as satisfying to uncover—like finding Huey, Dewey, and Louie hiding in a corner, ready to lend a hand. It’s messy in places, but that’s part of the charm. If you’ve played the original to death, this beta’s like discovering a rough draft of your favorite book.
Just don’t expect polish. Half the fun is spotting what changed before the final release.
