Play Dungeon Master (Japan) (Rev A) Online

Grab four oddballs, light a torch, and fumble through pitch-black halls while something growls in the dark—real-time combat means you’re either swinging wildly or chucking fireballs before the skeletons swarm you. Those teleporter puzzles still haunt me.

Game Overview

Dungeon Master on SNES is one of those games that feels way ahead of its time. You start by picking four weirdos from a lineup of warriors and spellcasters—I always went for the beefy fighter and at least one mage because those fireballs come in handy later. The dungeon’s pitch-black until you light a torch or cast a spell, and you’ll hear monsters shuffling in the dark before you see them. Combat’s frantic since everything happens in real time—no turn-based waiting around here.

What really hooked me were the puzzles. Some are simple pressure plates, others make you scratch your head for way too long (that one with the teleporters nearly broke me). And yeah, the whole firestaff quest sounds generic now, but back then? Felt epic. Just don’t expect fancy cutscenes—the atmosphere does all the work with creepy sounds and flickering torches. Still holds up if you can handle the old-school clunk.
