Game Overview

Dungeon Master came out in 1987 for MS-DOS, developed by FTL Games. It was one of those early PC titles that really pushed what a dungeon crawler could be, moving away from turn-based mechanics into something more immediate and tense. At the time, it stood out for its first-person perspective and real-time interaction, which felt pretty fresh compared to a lot of other games on the platform.

You control a party of up to four adventurers, navigating maze-like corridors one screen at a time. Your goal is to survive the dungeon's depths, defeat the final boss, and escape. Key mechanics include managing your torchlight to avoid being left in the dark, manually swinging weapons or aiming spells with the mouse, and solving environmental puzzles that block your progress. The game is deliberately paced and quite difficult, with limited resources and enemies that don't wait for you to plan your next move. It feels tense and immersive, like you're really down there with them.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
