Game Overview

Elfaria is one of those weird little SNES RPGs that slipped under the radar—it's got this bright, almost chibi art style that makes it look way more cheerful than the whole "defend the kingdom from shadow monsters" premise suggests. You start off picking between three classes (I went with the warrior first, but the mage has some surprisingly fun spells later).

The combat's pretty standard turn-based stuff, but there's something charming about how the sprites bounce around during battles. And yeah, the story's nothing groundbreaking—evil lord, ragtag heroes, you know the drill—but the dialogue has this goofy energy that kept me clicking through. Also, the overworld theme slaps way harder than it needs to.

It's definitely rough around the edges, but there's a scrappy little heart to it if you're into obscure 16-bit RPGs.
