Game Overview

Prehistoric Isle 2 came out for the Neo Geo in 1999, developed by Yumekobo and published by SNK. It arrived late in the system's life, a time when developers were still squeezing impressive visuals and action out of the hardware. The game is a side-scrolling shooter that builds on the ideas of its predecessor, throwing players into a world where dinosaurs never went extinct.

You pilot a small, agile aircraft across detailed prehistoric landscapes, firing a forward-mounted machine gun at waves of dinosaurs and ancient creatures. Your main goal is simply to survive each stage, blasting everything that moves while collecting power-up icons that change your weapon; these include spread shots, lasers, and homing missiles. One key mechanic lets you deploy a small, orbiting satellite that rotates around your plane and adds extra firepower. The pacing is fast and the screen often gets crowded with enemies, from diving pterosaurs to spitting dilophosaurs, making quick maneuvering essential. It feels chaotic and demanding, but also rewarding when you weave through a thick hail of projectiles and clear the screen.
