Elvira: The Arcade Game came out in 1991 for MS-DOS, developed by Flair Software Ltd. It was part of that wave of early 90s PC games that tried to blend action with a bit of personality, standing out with its horror-comedy theme when a lot of titles were still pretty straightforward.
You control Elvira herself, moving screen by screen through a monster-filled mansion, using a sword for close combat and magic spells like fireballs for ranged attacks. The main goal is to explore the dungeon-like setting, defeat creatures, and gather pieces of a magical amulet to stop an evil ritual. The pacing is deliberate, with careful movement needed to avoid traps and enemies, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you rush. It feels campy and rough around the edges, but landing a spell on a charging enemy delivers a solid, silly thrill.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
