Emblem of Gundam throws you right into the cockpit of a tactical mech battler—think Fire Emblem, but with way more laser swords and orbital drops. The first mission has you scrambling to position your mobile suits while enemy Zakus close in, and I’ll admit, I botched my initial formation hard. Turns out, leaving your sniper Gundam exposed is a bad idea.

What hooked me was the customization. You’re not just moving units on a grid—you’re tweaking their loadouts between battles, swapping beam rifles for bazookas, or sacrificing armor for mobility. The sprite work’s surprisingly crisp for a DS game, especially when units clash in those quick, brutal combat animations. Story’s all in Japanese (it’s an indie fan translation), but the mission objectives are clear enough, and there’s something weirdly satisfying about watching a well-planned ambush unfold.

Just don’t expect a cakewalk—the AI loves flanking your support units.
