Game Overview

F-14 Tomcat was released by MicroProse in 1988 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, a time when flight sims were starting to find their footing on home computers. It didn't try to be the most complex simulation out there, but it captured the feel of naval aviation with a focus on action over overwhelming system management.

You pilot the F-14, taking off from an aircraft carrier to engage enemy fighters and bombers. The main objective is to complete missions by eliminating all hostiles, protecting friendly units, and safely returning to land on the carrier. Key mechanics include managing your radar to lock missiles, switching between air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons, and carefully controlling throttle and flaps for carrier takeoffs and landings. The pacing is brisk, with enemies appearing quickly and dogfights demanding sharp reflexes. It feels immediate and tense, especially when a missile warning flashes and you have seconds to react.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
