Game Overview

F1 Pole Position came out on the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed by Human Entertainment. It was one of the earlier Formula 1 games on the system, arriving before the more famous titles that would follow. It fit right into that era of racing games where developers were still figuring out how to translate the speed and technicality of F1 onto a 16-bit console.

You control a single Formula 1 car, aiming to win races and ultimately the championship. The game requires you to manage your car's setup before each race, adjusting gear ratios and suspension to suit each track. During the race, you must also watch your fuel and tire wear, making strategic pit stops to stay competitive. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the unforgiving nature of the tracks means a single mistake can ruin an entire race. It feels like a genuine test of concentration and foresight.
