Game Overview

Falcon, released in 1987 by Spectrum HoloByte, was part of the early wave of serious flight simulators for MS-DOS. It arrived at a time when home computers were just beginning to offer experiences that demanded more than simple joystick waggling; it asked for patience and study. This wasn't an arcade shooter. It was a simulation that treated its subject with a quiet, technical seriousness.

You pilot an F-16 Fighting Falcon, managing its complex systems from a detailed cockpit view. The primary objective is to complete military missions, which involve navigating using waypoints, engaging enemy aircraft with missiles and your cannon, and successfully returning to base. Key mechanics include managing the aircraft's radar to lock onto targets and carefully controlling your speed, altitude, and weapon systems to survive dogfights. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty is steep, punishing any casual disregard for procedure. It feels like you are genuinely learning to operate a complex machine, where every successful sortie is a hard-won accomplishment.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
