Far East of Eden: Kabuki Klash is one of those weird, gorgeous arcade fighters that slipped under the radar back in the '90s. It’s got this over-the-top Edo-period aesthetic—think samurai, demons, and kabuki actors throwing down in cherry blossom-filled arenas. The moves feel weighty, like an old-school SNK fighter, but with these wild specials where characters summon giant frogs or turn into floating heads. My first match, I picked this dude with a sword longer than he was tall and accidentally discovered his unblockable cyclone slash. Classic arcade jank, but in the best way.
If you’re into obscure fighting games with personality (and don’t mind wrestling with MAME settings), this one’s a trip. Just don’t expect Street Fighter balance—half the fun is seeing how broken some of these characters are.
