Play Fatal Fury on Snes Online

Pick Terry or Andy, punch your way through Geese’s goons, and try not to get wrecked by that tornado kickboxer Joe. It’s janky, but nailing a Power Wave on your buddy never gets old.

Game Overview

I remember picking up Fatal Fury on the Super Nintendo back in 1992, a port of SNK's arcade fighter. It was a time when every console was trying to get a piece of the fighting game craze, and this was one of the attempts to bring that Neo Geo energy home, even if it meant some compromises.

You control one of three fighters, like Terry Bogard, and battle through a series of one-on-one matches to reach the final boss, Geese Howard. The game uses a two-plane system, letting you jump between the foreground and background to dodge attacks or close distance. You build up a special meter by landing hits, which lets you unleash more powerful moves. The pacing is deliberate, the difficulty is stiff, especially later on, and the controls can feel a bit stiff compared to other fighters of the era. It feels like a solid, if slightly rough, translation of a coin-op brawler.
