Fatal Fury Special came to the Super Nintendo in 1993, a port of SNK's arcade fighter. It was one of the more technically ambitious fighting games on the system at the time, trying to capture the feel of the Neo Geo original. You had a solid roster of characters to choose from, each with their own distinct style and moves.

You control one of these fighters in one-on-one battles, working through a tournament to become the champion. The game's signature mechanics are the two-plane system, where you can jump between the foreground and background to dodge attacks, and the desperation moves, powerful special attacks you can only use when your health is critical. The pacing is fast, and the computer opponents can be brutally difficult, reading your inputs and punishing mistakes. Landing a perfectly timed special move to end a close match provides a real sense of accomplishment.
