Fate/Extra came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2010, developed by Imageepoch and published by Marvelous Entertainment. It was part of that wave of ambitious, story-heavy RPGs that really tried to push what the PSP could do, offering a dense, visual novel-style experience wrapped in dungeon crawling. The setting is a strange digital world called SE.RA.PH, where participants fight in a Holy Grail War for a chance to have any wish granted.

You play as a student who has lost their memories, choosing to be a male or female protagonist and forming a contract with a Servant, like Saber or Archer. The main goal is to survive each week, gathering intel on your next opponent, then delving into a randomly generated dungeon to power up before the weekly duel. Combat uses a unique, prediction-based system where you analyze enemy patterns to chain attacks in a rock-paper-scissors style clash. The pacing is methodical, almost tense, because a wrong guess can cost you the match and force a reload. It feels like solving a puzzle with every fight, and the atmosphere keeps you questioning every character's motive.
