Play FIFA 98 Online
Slide-tackling your way through pixelated World Cup matches with Norway while that soundtrack gets stuck in your head for days.

FIFA 98 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System came out in 1997, a late release from EA Sports for a console already seeing its successor. It was one of the last major soccer games on the SNES, arriving when many players were moving to newer systems. The game offered a straightforward take on international football, focusing on national teams and World Cup qualification without the club licenses of later entries.
You control all eleven players on the field, switching between them to pass, shoot, and tackle. The main goal is to score more goals than the opponent, either in a single match or through a full tournament. Signature mechanics include the through pass for leading attackers into space and a sliding tackle that, while effective, often draws a foul if mistimed. The pacing is quick, with players moving rapidly end to end, and the difficulty can spike against stronger teams. It feels like a fast, sometimes chaotic game of football where a single through ball can break everything open.
