Game Overview

Freaks is a 1993 MS-DOS game developed by the small team at Eclipse Software. It came out during a time when shareware platformers were common, offering a straightforward, often brutal challenge without much pretense. The game doesn't try to be epic; it just throws you into its weird world and expects you to keep up.

You control a small character armed with a gun, moving screen by screen through a sidescrolling environment. Your goal is simply to survive each stage by eliminating all the enemies, which include bouncing blobs, splitting eyeballs, and other abstract monstrosities. The core mechanics involve precise jumping to avoid attacks and careful aiming to take down foes before they overwhelm you. The pacing is relentless from the start, with enemy density and speed increasing sharply, making later stages feel nearly impossible without perfect execution. It feels like trying to solve a frantic, violent puzzle where one mistake usually means starting over.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
