Game Overview

I picked up G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra for the PSP back in 2009, a portable tie-in to the summer movie developed by Double Helix Games and published by Electronic Arts. It was a solid third-person shooter for its time, fitting right in with the era's love for handheld action games you could play anywhere. The PSP had a lot of these movie-based titles, and this one tried to capture the explosive feel of the film on a smaller screen.

You control different members of the G.I. Joe team, like Duke or Snake Eyes, working through linear levels to stop Cobra from taking over the world. The core gameplay involves running, taking cover, and shooting waves of enemy soldiers. You can switch between two pre-selected characters on the fly during combat, which is useful for mixing up tactics or just surviving when one gets low on health. The game also includes a Nanomite suit power that temporarily makes you invincible and boosts your damage, perfect for getting out of a tight spot. The action is fast and often chaotic, with a moderate difficulty that keeps you moving forward. It feels like a straightforward, run-and-gun arcade experience that doesn't overcomplicate things.
