Game Overview

I picked up Galaga: Destination Earth for the Game Boy Color back in 2000, a release from Hasbro Interactive. It was one of those portable attempts to bring a classic arcade experience into the handheld era, sitting alongside a lot of other straightforward action titles on the system. It didn't try to reinvent anything, just offered a familiar name in a new, pocket-sized package.

You control a small fighter ship at the bottom of the screen, moving left and right to avoid enemy fire while shooting formations of Galaga aliens. The main goal is to survive wave after wave, clearing each screen of foes to progress. Key mechanics include the risk-reward tactic of letting a tractor beam capture your ship for a chance to rescue it and double your firepower, and the occasional appearance of challenging boss enemies. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding sharp reflexes and good positioning. It feels like a constant, tense battle against an endless swarm.
