Galaxy Force came out on the Sega Master System in 1988, a conversion of Sega's arcade game. It was one of the more ambitious attempts at a 3D-style space shooter on the console, trying to capture that feeling of flying into the screen that was so popular in cabinets at the time. The hardware limitations are apparent, but it was a solid effort for SMS owners looking for something beyond simpler 2D shooters.
You pilot a starfighter through a series of planetary systems, each one a long, winding tunnel filled with enemy ships, turrets, and obstacles. Your main objective is simply to survive the onslaught and reach the end of each stage to confront a large boss. The signature mechanics are the forced-perspective 3D movement, where the entire world seems to be rushing toward you, and the ability to lock onto multiple targets with a homing laser. The pacing is relentless; enemies pour in from all directions, and the low frame rate can make dodging a chore. It feels like a constant, chaotic scramble to keep your ship in one piece.
