Galleons of Glory came out in 1992 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Broderbund Software. It was one of those games that felt right at home on a beige desktop tower, running on hardware that could barely handle its pixelated oceans and chunky ship sprites. In an era full of space shooters and text adventures, it stood out simply by letting you command a vessel on the high seas.

You take control of a ship captain, managing your crew, ammunition, and gold while navigating a vast map filled with ports, storms, and enemy ships. Your main goal is to build your reputation and wealth by completing trade missions, hunting pirates, or engaging in outright naval combat. Key mechanics include real-time sailing with wind direction affecting your speed, turn-based tactical battles when engaging other ships, and careful resource management to avoid mutiny or sinking. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow by today's standards, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush into fights unprepared. Sailing into open water with a hold full of spices and the sound of creaking timbers makes you weigh every decision.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
