Game Overview

I remember picking up Galleons of Glory: The Secret Voyage of Magellan back in the early '90s. It was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Brøderbund Software in 1990. At the time, it stood out among other historical and strategy titles for its focus on maritime exploration, offering a different kind of challenge from the platformers and RPGs that dominated the era.

In the game, you take command of Magellan's fleet, managing supplies, crew morale, and navigation across a vast, unknown ocean. Your main goal is to complete the first circumnavigation of the globe, but survival is a constant struggle. You make critical decisions about rationing food, avoiding storms, and dealing with hostile encounters. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty can be punishing if you mismanage resources or take unnecessary risks. It feels like a tense, thoughtful simulation of what it might have been like to sail into the unknown with limited tools and great uncertainty.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
