Game Overview

Ganbare Goemon - Derudero Douchuu Obake Tenkomori is one of those N64 games that feels like it got lost in translation—literally and figuratively. You play as Goemon, this pipe-smoking, kiseru-wielding goofball, and his even weirder friends, bouncing through Edo-period Japan with all the subtlety of a kabuki play on caffeine. The levels are bright, chaotic, and packed with weird little details—like enemies that look like sentient radishes or townspeople who just stand there staring while you wreck the place.

At first, the controls feel a little stiff—like Goemon’s sandals are glued to the floor—but once you get used to the rhythm, it clicks. You’ll platform, solve puzzles (some of which make zero sense until you’ve thrown every item in your inventory at them), and occasionally hop into a giant robot for no reason other than because Japan said so. The humor’s hit-or-miss if you don’t speak the language, but the sheer absurdity carries it. If you’ve ever wanted to fight a sumo wrestler on a flying carpet, this is your game.
