Konami released Gang Busters in the arcades in 1984, a time when side-scrolling action games were really starting to define the space. It was a straightforward cop game, not trying to be anything more than a quick, loud quarter-muncher you'd find wedged between more famous titles.

You control one of two detectives, moving from left to right through city streets and industrial areas. Your main job is to shoot every criminal you see and, for the bigger ones, physically grapple them and throw them into a waiting police wagon that follows you. The game uses a two-joystick setup; one moves your character while the other aims your gun in eight directions, letting you fire while running or ducking for cover. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from both sides of the screen and bullets filling the air, making it a real test of reflexes. It feels like a chaotic, satisfying brawl where you're always just one mistake away from getting overwhelmed.
