Play Gateworld Online
Navigate a maze of gates, map your path, avoid enemies, and manage resources in this challenging MS-DOS adventure from 1993.
Gateworld came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a homebrew title that quietly slipped onto floppies without much fanfare. It was developed by an independent creator, though the name isn't widely remembered now. The game fits right into that era of experimental, often unforgiving DOS adventures, where players expected to figure things out through trial and a lot of error.
You control a simple character navigating a maze of interconnected screens, each one a gate that warps you unpredictably to another location. The goal is to map a safe path through these shifting environments while avoiding enemies and environmental hazards. Key mechanics include screen-by-screen exploration, managing limited resources like health, and sometimes using a basic weapon to clear obstacles. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense; one wrong gate can strand you far from safety or drop you into immediate danger. It feels like solving a spatial puzzle where every decision carries weight, and success comes from patience and careful observation.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
