Game Overview

Gateworld: The Home Planet came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a homebrew release that captured the spirit of early 90s PC gaming. It was developed by a small, independent team whose name doesn't ring many bells today, but the game itself fits right in with the era's appetite for challenging, screen-by-screen action adventures. You won't find elaborate cutscenes or voice acting here; just straightforward, pixel-pushing exploration.

You control a lone astronaut stranded on an alien planet, tasked with reactivating a series of ancient energy gates to escape. Movement is grid-based, room by room, with each screen presenting environmental puzzles, hostile creatures, and occasional hidden switches. Combat is simple but tense; you have a limited-use laser pistol for enemies and must often avoid confrontations to conserve ammo. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is unapologetic, demanding careful observation and trial and error. Playing it feels like uncovering a stubborn, slightly cryptic artifact from computing's earlier days.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
