Game Overview

Gekitou Stadium!! is a Japan only Nintendo Entertainment System release from 1990, developed by TOSE and published by Irem. It arrived late in the NES lifecycle, a time when developers were still finding new ways to use the hardware for competitive sports games.

You control a single wrestler, moving around a small ring to grapple with an opponent. The main objective is to either pin your rival's shoulders to the mat for a three count or throw them out of the ring entirely. Signature mechanics include a momentum based grappling system where you must time your button presses to initiate and counter moves, and a health meter that depletes with each successful attack. The pacing is fast and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with the computer opponent capitalizing on any mistake. It feels like a chaotic, unpredictable brawl where a single mistake can cost you the match.
