Game Overview

Genso Suikoden Tierkreis came out for the Nintendo DS in 2008, developed and published by Konami. It was part of that wave of DS RPGs that tried to make the most of the dual screens and touch controls, though it didn't always stand out from the crowd. The game builds on the Suikoden tradition of large character rosters and political conflict, but it carves its own path in a separate universe.

You control a young protagonist from a remote village who gets pulled into a war across multiple dimensions. Your main goal is to gather the 108 Stars of Destiny, a mix of fighters, mages, and support characters, to challenge a group called the Order of the One True Way. Combat is turn based with formation tactics, and you can deploy up to six characters at once. Exploration happens across interconnected world maps and smaller locations, with the touch screen used for menu navigation and some interactions. The pacing is deliberate, with plenty of dialogue and recruitment tasks between major story beats. It feels like building a community while slowly uncovering a grand, sometimes convoluted, plot.
