Game Overview

Get Ride! Amdriver Shuggeki! Battle Party came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Konami. It was part of that wave of mecha games on the system, based on the anime of the same name, and it fit right in with other action titles trying to capture a specific feel on the handheld.

You pilot a transforming mecha called an Amdriver, switching between a ground and flight form during fights to outmaneuver opponents. The main goal is to defeat enemy mechs in arena-style battles, using a mix of ranged weapons and close-quarters combat. Between missions, you can customize your unit's weapons and armor, which adds a layer of strategy before each skirmish. The action is fast and a bit chaotic, with enemies coming from all directions, but the controls are responsive enough to handle the pace. It feels satisfying to land a full combo, transform to dodge an attack, and finish a fight without taking a hit.
