Ghostbusters on the NES came out in 1988, published by Activision. It was one of those many movie tie-in games from that era, a time when you never quite knew if the cartridge would be a pleasant surprise or a total mess. This one definitely had its own personality, for better or worse.

You control the whole Ghostbusters team, managing your finances to buy equipment before driving around a top-down city map. When a ghost alert pops up, you enter a side-scrolling building, using your proton pack to weaken spooks before trying to slide a trap under them. The main goal is to stop Gozer by building your cash and courage, but the constant drain on your funds and the tricky ghost trapping make it a tense, sometimes frustrating race. It feels like you are always scrambling to stay one step ahead of total financial ruin.
