Ghostbusters World came out for the Sega Genesis in 1990, published by Sega. It was one of those early Genesis titles that tried to capture the feel of the movies, with chunky sprites and a soundtrack that leaned hard on the theme. At the time, it stood out simply for being a Ghostbusters game that actually let you bust ghosts.

You control one of the four Ghostbusters, moving screen by screen through various haunted locations like hotels and streets. Your main goal is to clear each area of ghosts, then eventually trap the main boss ghost to finish the stage. The signature mechanics are using your proton pack to weaken ghosts, then throwing a trap to capture them; you also drive the Ecto-1 between stages, which breaks up the action. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can feel unforgiving due to some awkward controls and relentless enemies. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes clunky, but oddly satisfying arcade-style romp.
