Ghostmuncher Galaxian came out in 1983 as an arcade game from Namco. It was part of that wave of fixed shooters where you mostly just moved left and right, but it had its own little twists that made it stand out in a crowded scene. The cabinet wasn't as common as some others, so finding one always felt like a small victory.
You control a small ship at the bottom of the screen, shooting upward at waves of ghost-like enemies. Your main goal is simply to survive and clear each stage by destroying every enemy, but they don't just fly in formation. Some of them break apart when you shoot them, splitting into smaller, faster targets that fill the screen. Others leave behind trails of fire or dive bomb you in unpredictable patterns, forcing quick dodges and careful aim. The pacing starts deceptively slow but ramps up sharply; after a few levels, the screen becomes a chaotic mess of projectiles and splitting enemies, demanding sharp reflexes. It feels tense and frantic, especially when you're cornered with nowhere to go.
