Ghosts 'n Goblins on MS-DOS is the kind of game that punches you in the face within the first five minutes—and somehow, you keep coming back for more. You play as Sir Arthur, a knight who starts off looking heroic in his armor... until the first enemy hits you and suddenly you're running around in heart-patterned boxers. The pixel art is charmingly creepy, with zombies lurching out of graves and demons swooping down at the worst possible moments.
The controls take some getting used to—this was the era where keyboard bindings felt like solving a puzzle—but once you adjust, there's something weirdly satisfying about hurling lances at monsters while that eerie chiptune soundtrack plays. Just don't get too attached to progress. You'll die. A lot. But every time you do, you'll swear it was "totally unfair" before immediately hitting restart. It's a relic from when games didn't hold your hand, and honestly? That's why it still sticks with people.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
