Ghoul Patrol came out in 1994 for the Super Nintendo, published by JVC Musical Industries. It was a follow up to Zombies Ate My Neighbors, another LucasArts game, and it kept the same kind of campy B movie style. You play as one of two teenage monster hunters, Zeke or Julie, and the goal is to stop an invasion of classic movie monsters like mummies and werewolves.
You move through levels screen by screen, shooting enemies with weapons like crossbows and flamethrowers. The game uses an overhead perspective, but the controls can feel a bit slippery, and the screen scrolls awkwardly sometimes. You explore graveyards and castles, collecting keys and power ups while fighting off waves of creatures. It is faster and more chaotic than its predecessor, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly. Playing it feels like stumbling through a messy but enthusiastic haunted house attraction.
