Play Ghoul Patrol (Japan) Online
Team up as monster hunters, blast through waves of ghosts and mummies, dodge projectiles, and tackle bosses in this overhead action shooter.
Ghoul Patrol came out in 1994 for the Super Nintendo, developed by LucasArts. It was one of those mid-90s action games that tried to build on the success of earlier co-op shooters, though it never quite reached the same level of recognition. You could tell it was aiming for that frantic, screen-by-screen style of play that was popular at the time.
You control one of two monster hunters, armed with weapons like shotguns and crossbows, clearing rooms of ghosts, mummies, and other supernatural enemies. The goal is straightforward: survive each stage, defeat the boss, and move on. The game uses an overhead perspective with an emphasis on dodging projectiles and managing limited ammo. Levels are large and sometimes repetitive, which can make progress feel slow. Still, there's a strange charm in the sheer variety of enemies and the constant pressure to not get overwhelmed. It feels messy and unpredictable, but in a way that keeps you coming back for just one more try.
