Play Golvellius Online
You slash through forests and caves as Valdur, swapping between top-down and side-scrolling views—just watch out for that sneaky hermit selling upgrades near the start. Those screen-filling bosses feel epic when you finally take them down.
Golvellius on the Sega Master System is one of those games that feels like it should've been way more famous than it was. You play as Valdur, swinging your sword through colorful forests, dark caves, and maze-like dungeons—sometimes the perspective even shifts to side-scrolling out of nowhere, which keeps things interesting.
The first time I played, I got stuck for ages in the second dungeon because I didn’t realize you could buy better gear from that weird hermit guy near the starting area. Once you figure that out, the combat clicks—hacking through enemies feels satisfying, especially when you finally take down one of those screen-filling bosses.
It’s got that classic 8-bit Zelda vibe but with Sega’s punchier visuals and music. Some of the platforming bits are janky by today’s standards, but there’s something weirdly charming about how it throws so many ideas together. If you dig retro action-RPGs, this one’s a blast from the past that holds up better than most.
