Play GT Racing (Japan) Online

Tight city tracks with real weight to the cars—rain actually messes with your grip, and dodging traffic while the MIDI guitars wail feels just right for a '90s racer.

Game Overview

GT Racing on SNES is one of those late-era racers that flew under the radar but actually holds up pretty well. You’ve got a mix of real-world cars (mostly Japanese models, unsurprisingly) and some surprisingly detailed tracks with weather effects—rain actually slicks the road and makes handling weirdly slippery, which I wasn’t expecting from a 16-bit game.

The handling takes a minute to get used to—it’s weightier than something like Top Gear, but once you adjust, weaving through traffic on narrow city courses feels satisfying. The soundtrack’s all MIDI guitar riffs and engine noises, exactly what you’d want from a ‘90s racing game. Not a hidden gem or anything, but way better than it had any right to be for a random licensed title.
