Guilty Gear Dust Strikers came out for the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed by Arc System Works. It was part of that wave of early DS titles that tried to figure out what the touch screen was actually good for, landing somewhere between a fighter and a frantic party game. You pick a fighter from the Guilty Gear roster and battle across a side-scrolling board game, moving by rolling a die. The main goal is to defeat opponents and collect their medals before they get yours. The signature mechanics are all touch-based; you swipe the stylus to perform basic attacks and tap specific spots on the screen to unleash your character's special moves and Overdrives. The pacing is fast and a little messy, with up to four players able to jump in for some chaotic, screen-tapping action. It feels like a simplified, portable brawler that trades precision for pure, silly fun.
